The spring high school sports season marked the end of the 2023-24 school year, and before the new year begins, The Cincinnati Enquirer presents the 2023-2024 Spring All-Stars, also known as the all-city teams.

Team state championships by Mason baseball and St. Xavier boys volleyball highlighted a spring season with several teams making deep tournament runs. Greater Cincinnati enjoyed many team state titles, individual crowns and other accomplishments in individual-oriented sports such as tennis, and track and field.

Here are the all-city teams for the 2024 spring season.

Baseball

Ohio

Division I

Player of the year

Jacob Hanley, Mason: The senior Indiana University commit was Ohio all-state player of the year and the coaches' all-city player of the year after leading the Comets to their first state championship. Hanley hit .388 with five home runs, 32 RBIs, 35 runs scored, eight doubles and four triples. On the mound, he was 9-1 with a 1.79 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 58 innings, pitching four shutouts on the season. He was at his best during the postseason run. He hit three home runs in the playoffs and then had two key hits against Moeller in the regional final. In the state semifinals, a 1-0 win over Perrysburg, he pitched a one-hit shutout and drove in the only run with a two-out triple in the top of the seventh inning.

Coach of the year

Curt Bly, Mason: He led the Comets to a 28-6 record and their first state championship.

Player of the year

Nick Rinala, Indian Hill: He led the Braves to a 22-8 record, the Cincinnati Hills League championship, and their first district championship since 1993. Rinala was CHL Player of the Year for the second year in a row, the Southwest Ohio Baseball Coaches Association all-city Division II player of the year, and honorable mention all-state. He was 8-1 with a 1.56 ERA on the mound and hit .407 with 20 RBIs, 35 steals and 44 runs scored.

Coach of the year

Brion Treadway, Badin: He led the Rams to a 27-7 record and a state runner-up finish. Badin was league, district and regional champions.

Division III

Co-players of the year

Cameron Snider, Bethel-Tate: He led the Tigers to a 15-7 record and the Southern Buckeye Academic and Athletic Conference-National championship. He was named the National Division player of the year and SWOBCA co-player of the year in Divisions III/IV. Snider was 8-2 on the mound with an ERA of 0.88 and 85 strikeouts in 56 innings. He was also the Tigers’ top hitter with a .368 average, 18 RBIs and 14 steals.

Evan Lafferty, Miami Valley Christian Academy: He led the Lions to a 19-6 record and the Miami Valley Conference-Gray Division championship. He was the MVC-Gray player of the year and SWOBCA co-player of the year in Divisions III/IV. He hit .474 with 20 RBIs, 10 extra-base hits, 22 steals and 30 runs scored. On the mound, he was 4-1 with a 2.82 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 34 innings.

Coach of the year

Greg Tissot, Cincinnati Country Day: He led the Nighthawks to a 21-9 record and a district championship, losing to eventual state champion Heath in the regional semifinals.

Grady Jowers, Felicity-Franklin: The junior led the Cardinals to the district championship game and was first-team all-league in the SBAAC-National. He was 5-0 on the mound with a 1.73 ERA and hit .309 with 10 RBIs. He had 42 strikeouts in 32 innings and was honorable mention all-state by Prep Baseball Report.

Coach of the year

Tyrell Martin, Lockland: He was named SWOBCA Division III/IV coach of the year and the MVC-Gray coach of the year after leading the Panthers to a 9-14 record, a six-win improvement over 2023.

Jackson Reardon, Covington Catholic: The junior led the Colonels with a .463 average, three home runs, 36 RBIs, 15 doubles and six triples. He stole 20 bases and scored 47 runs to lead CovCath to a 31-6 record

A.J. Curry, Ryle: The sophom*ore was the leading hitter in Kentucky with a .571 average, hitting six homers with 35 RBIs, 43 runs scored and 14 steals. He was also 2-2 with two saves and a 2.33 ERA on the mound. He helped Ryle win the Ninth Region and advance to the state quarterfinals.

Coach of the year

Joseph Aylor, Ryle: He led the Raiders to the Ninth Region championship and the state quarterfinals.

Khalif Hocker, St. Xavier: The junior attack led the Bombers to a 21-4 record and Division I state runner-up. He was the only local first-team all-state selection, an All-American honoree by USA Lacrosse, and the Region 4 player of the year.

Coach of the year

Ron Cheek, Kings: He was Region 4 coach of the year after leading the Knights to an 18-2 record, their most wins in a season in school history, and their first Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship since 2019.

Matt Swisher, Fenwick: The senior attack was first-team all-state in Division II and Region 8 player of the year after leading the Falcons to an 18-3 record and regional runner-up. He had 73 goals, 31 assists and 59 ground balls for the season.

Player of the year

Michael Lanier, Ryle: The senior led Ryle to a 9-8 record, a district title and the state quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Lacrosse League. He was named all-state and all-region after notching 37 goals and 17 assists. He graduated as Ryle’s all-time leading scorer with 121 goals and set school records with 357 ground balls and 557 faceoff wins.

Coach of the year

Noah Reed, Ryle: He led the Raiders to a district title and the state quarterfinals, going undefeated against other Northern Kentucky teams during the season.

Carly Thiel, Sycamore: The senior led the Aviators to a 15-4 record and the Greater Miami Conference championship. She was first-team all-state in Division I, Region 4 midfielder of the year and a USA Lacrosse All-American. She scored more than 100 goals this season and more than 300 for her career. She also had 74 ground balls this season and over 200 draw controls.

Caroline Ling, Springboro: The Rutgers signee was Ohio Division I Co-Attack of the Year and Division I, Region 4 Attack of the Year after scoring 188 goals for the Panthers.

Coach of the year

Brian Schuckman, Kings: He led the Knights to a 19-4 record, their first regional championship and the Division I state semifinals.

Julie Mulvey, McNicholas: With just one senior on the roster, Mulvey coached McNicholas to a 23-5 record as the Rockets returned to the OHSAA Division II state tournament, winning the first state title in program history.
