While there are many rooms and areas in Super Mario Odyssey with lots of coins, this specific path in the Wooded Kingdom offers tons of coins in little time. Best of all, it's at a point that's still rather early in the game.

See our method for farming coins below, and add your favorite places to farm coins by hitting the "Edit Page" button or in the comments below.

General Tips

Beyond collecting coins while playing through Super Mario Odyssey, keep these tips in mind to maximize your earnings:

  • Spend your coins! If you're sitting at 9,999, you're wasting any potential coins you could be earning as you play through Super Mario Odyssey.
  • Collect transparent purple coins and Power Moons. The transparent purple coins are worth two gold coins each, and the transparent Power Moons are worth five gold coins.
  • Replay secret areas, like the Jaxi Temple, to grind coins.
  • Keep an eye out for Coin Coffers for plenty of bonus coins.Be careful not to shake your Joy-Con or the Coin Coffer will destroy your coins. If you happen to find one by a good spawn point, you can capture the Coffer, get its coins, then jump off a ledge to reset the Coffer. Then capture it again and keep farming!
  • Throw Cappy at the Cat Mario and Cat Peach sprites for coins from Mario and a heart from Peach.
  • Missing a few coins? Tap an Amiibo! Unless it has a specific use, it'll give Mario a few coins or a heart.
  • If Mario's full on hearts, still pick up hearts! Grabbing them when Mario is a full health gives Mario bonus coins.
  • Try your hand at the Tostarena slots in Tostarena and New Donk City!

Luigi's Balloon World

With the update to Super Mario Odyssey adding Luigi's Balloon World, it changed the ideal way to farm for coins - if you've beaten the game already of course.

You unlock Luigi's Balloon World by completing the main story. then find Luigi in each kingdom to play his new game. This is a great way to farm coins! Be sure to go for the more challenging Balloons to find as those net the greatest rewards!

Coin Farming Areas

The previous farming area in the Wooded Kingdom is a great, early spot to get a ton of coins, but there are plenty of other places to pad Mario's wallet. Below are other farming spots thatare slight spoilers for areas in Super Mario Odyssey.

Cascade Kingdom's Dinosaur Nest

This isn't the fastest way to earn lots of coins, but it is fun and accessible early on in Super Mario Odyssey! It's a decent alternative to some of the more technical or late coin farming areas.

After you've cleared and returned to the Cascade Kingdom, the kingdom undergoes some mild changes. One of those important changes is that you can access the cliff just past the bridge to access a Dinosaur Nest.

Use the Chain Chomp to smash the rock pillar to reveal a green pipe. Enter, and Mario can collect a Power Moon and sever purple coins. If you've already done this, warp to the Top of the Big Stump checkpoint.

Not far from the stump are a few ledges that lead down to a Cappy Door. Enter it to find a special challenge area.

Inside is a sleeping T-Rex and plenty of things to crush. Destroy all the enemies to get a Power Moon, and with the T-Rex, hope down to the lower level below the cliff to destroy more pillars for another Power Moon.

Completely destroying everything and gathering all the coins takes a little more than two minutes and yields somewhere between 140 - 180 coins.

Wooded Kingdom's Observation Deck

After you've completely cleared the Wooded Kingdom, you can find this specific path for tons of coins. Based on our tests, you'll get approximately 269 coins per 2 minutes if you snag all the coins along this path. You'll have well over 1,000 coins in about 8 minutes.

Watch the video above for specific steps, or follow the guide below:

Warp to the Observation Deck. If you haven't unlocked this point yet, warp to Iron Mountain Path, Station 8, climb the ramp, and make a right.

You'll see a Steam Gardener next to a blue power button. Activate it and use the platforms to get to the top of the tower. This checkpoint is crucial. Collect the purple coins near the deck too. If you're just now doing this, warp to the Observation Deck to reset the coins.

On the Observation Deck, collect the seethrough purple coins (or ghost coins) then capture the Glydon Glide back toward the entrance of the Secret Flower Field and land in the field. Using the Glydon makes the trip down faster.

Then in the field, capture the Coin Coffer in the northeast corner. It likes to sit on this hill:

Walk north until the Coin Coffer is out of coins, jump off it, and grab the transparent Power Moon. Then grab a seed from the Steam Gardener at the north end of the field. Walk with the seed back toward the Observation Deck, using the blue power button's platforms to get back to the top. Jump to the highest platform of the Observation Deck, plant the seed, then ride the stalk up into the sky. At this point you should have collected around 43 coins. You'll find the rest of your fortune in the sky.

This challenge area has a ton of coins. Capture the Uproot and hop onto the blue platform to begin. You'll want to be careful not to fall, but do your best to get as many coins -- if not all of them -- as possible. If it's your first time playing through this area, learn the room instead of focusing on getting all the coins. That way you'll be able to complete this room much easier next time you're here. Falling in this area sends Mario back to the Observation Deck. Collect everything you can, then fall back to the deck. If you collected every coin (excluding the transparent moons in the cloud challenge area) you'll have added about 264 coins to Mario's pocket.

Once you're comfortable with it, this entire process should take you no more than two minutes, and you'll be able to get over 1000 coins in around 8 and a half to 9 minutes.

Bowser Kingdom's Beneath the Keep

Bowser Kingdom has a fantastic farming spot once you're late into Super Mario Odyssey. In about a minute and a half, if you do this right, you can earn 180 coins. Here's how to do it:

Head to the kingdom and warp to Beneath the Keep.

Walk away from the main gate and head west along the wall, walking toward the warp pipe. When you're on the far wall, ground pound down to the platform below.

Grab the seed on the south end of the roof and plant it in the patch of dirt on the north end of the roof. Grab onto the beanstalk and ride it up into the clouds.

In this uniquely simple challenge area, you'll need to use Cappy get the Rocket Flowers to speed through the platforms. While running through this area, do not touch the left thumbstick. It's really easy to fall off the platforms, so instead, only focus on jumping and capturing more Rocket Flowers.

Coin Coffer Locations

The Coin Coffers are a valuable source of coins. Capture one of the invisible little friends and you'll get 30 coins just for walking around. Coin Coffers use coins to attack, so be careful not to shake the Joy-Con if you don't want to lose any coins!

Coin Coffer farming is slow, but a viable method if you want to zone out and focus on something else. To farm them, you'll want to find one close to a ledge or somewhere easy to reset the area. Get all the Coin Coffer's coins (don't forget to stomp the Coin Coffer for a few extra) then reset the area.

See where you can find Coin Coffers with the list below:

Sand Kingdom Coin Coffer

After completing the campaign missions in the Sand Kingdom, Mario can revisit the boss room. Walk to the point on the map below and you'll see two Tostarenans looking into a pit. Jump in and you'll be back at the boss arena.

After landing, look left and look for the invisible Coin Coffer. Watch out for the mummies! This location is particularly good for Coin Coffer farming.

Wooded Kingdom Coin Coffer

The Wooded Kingdom has two Coin Coffers.

You'll find the first of the two in the Deep Woods.

Leap off the high wall near the Odyssey to enter the deep woods, then look for this set of breakable rocks by a gardener. You'll find the Coin Coffer nearby.

The next Coin Coffer is in the field in front of the entrance to the Secret Flower Field. You'll unlock this area after defeating the Broodals.

This Coin Coffer is a great contender for Coin Coffer farming.
