BRISTOL — Jeffrey "Hub" James Bouvier, 53, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.Jeff was born on May 12, 1951, the son of James A. and Alice J. (Newton) Bouvier at Porter Hospital, Middlebury, Vermont. He was a lifelong resident of Bristol, graduating from Mt. Abraham UHS in 1971. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the Bristol Fire Department, joining in August 1986, and the Sons of the American Legion. Jeff was employed at Polymers for 32 years as a machinist.Jeff had three loves in his life — his family, the Bristol Fire Department, and the many favorite sports teams he rooted for. His brothers and sisters fondly remember his way of just dropping by and checking in on all of us. Jeff played a "big brother" role to all of us and was a loyal, unselfish son, caring for our mother after dad left us in 1991. Jeff loved watching his many nieces and nephews sporting events. He was a big follower of the New England teams — the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, and the Celtics. He also loved the Green Bay Packers and was a dedicated fan of the Middlebury College Men's Ice Hockey team. Jeff also enjoyed hunting, spending many hours at the family camp in Little Ireland.Jeff is survived by his mother, Alice J. Bouvier, and four brothers and three sisters, who all reside in Bristol. His four brothers and their families are: Mark and Deborah Bouvier and their children Jaime, Nathan, and Andrew; Peter and Tina Bouvier and their children Kari (his godchild) and Ryan; James (Buzz) and Wanda Bouvier and their children Sarah, Justin, Cullen, and Matthew, and Joel and Starr Bouvier and their daughters Tasha and Megan. Other survivors include his three sisters and their families: Connie LaRose and her husband Ron and sons Kevin and Jeffrey Brett (his namesake), Michelle Cousino and her husband Rod, and their children Christopher, Gregory, and Katherine, and Colleen Wedge and her husband Reg, and their children Rebecca, Casey, and Eric. Jeff also leaves his sister-in-law, Laura Bouvier, and her children Jennifer and Timothy. Although Jeff had no children of his own, he was like a dad to his 21 nieces and nephews and their children. He always made the newest members of the family feel welcomed and loved. He also leaves nine great nieces and nephews and many loving cousins, two aunts, and an uncle. Jeff was predeceased by his dad, James A. Bouvier in 1991, and his brother, Eric H. Bouvier in 1992.The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses for the gentle, loving care given to Jeff during his short stay at Porter Medical Center and Fletcher Allen Health Care.Donations in Jeff's memory may be made to the Bristol Fire Department, in care of Dwayne Tucker, P.O. Box 249, Bristol, Vermont 05443.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol on Monday, May 9, at 10 a.m. Friends may call at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home on Sunday, May 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
